Has anyone else had a PS5 DualSense controller start moving characters or scrolling through menus by itself?
The analog stick appears centered, but the controller still registers movement even when it isn't being touched. Sometimes the drift is minor, while other times it makes games difficult to play.
Is this usually caused by dirt around the analog stick, calibration, controller software, or worn joystick components? Has anyone found a fix that actually lasts?
Stick drift usually happens when the controller detects movement from an analog stick even though you're not touching it. Before assuming the controller needs to be replaced, there are a few things worth checking.
First, confirm whether the movement happens in multiple games. If it only happens in one game, check that game's controller settings and try slightly increasing the dead zone.
If it happens everywhere, turn the controller off and gently clean around the base of the affected analog stick. Dust or debris around the stick mechanism can sometimes contribute to inconsistent input. Avoid pouring liquids or cleaner directly into the controller.
You can also make sure the PS5 and DualSense controller software are updated, then disconnect and reconnect the controller. If the drift remains consistent across several games, the analog stick mechanism itself may be worn or faulty and could require repair or replacement.
For anyone who has dealt with DualSense stick drift: did cleaning or changing the dead-zone settings help, or did you eventually have to repair or replace the controller?
