Has anyone else had the Wi-Fi option randomly disappear completely in Windows 11?
The wireless connection works normally and then suddenly Wi-Fi is no longer available in the taskbar or network settings. Restarting the computer can bring it back, but the problem eventually happens again.
Could this be caused by the Wi-Fi driver, Windows power management, the wireless adapter itself, or a recent Windows update? What fixed it permanently for you?
Yes, this can happen when Windows temporarily loses communication with the wireless adapter. Since restarting the computer brings Wi-Fi back, I would check the driver and Windows power-management settings before assuming the Wi-Fi card itself has failed.
First, open Device Manager → Network adapters and find your wireless adapter. Right-click it → Properties → Power Management. If you see “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power,” try unchecking it and restart the computer.
I would also check the laptop or Wi-Fi adapter manufacturer's website for the latest wireless driver rather than relying only on Windows Update. If the problem started immediately after a driver update, however, rolling back to the previous driver may be worth trying instead.
The next time Wi-Fi disappears, check Device Manager before restarting. That can give an important clue:
- If the wireless adapter is still listed normally, it may be a driver or Windows networking issue.
- If it has a warning symbol, check the error shown in its properties.
- If the adapter has disappeared from Device Manager completely, that points more strongly toward the driver, power management, or possibly the adapter/hardware itself.
You can also try Action → Scan for hardware changes in Device Manager when the adapter disappears. If that immediately brings it back, that's useful diagnostic information.
I wouldn't start with a full Windows network reset because that can remove saved network configurations. I'd first determine what happens to the Wi-Fi adapter in Device Manager when the Wi-Fi option disappears.
If this is happening to you, post the laptop/model or Wi-Fi adapter name and whether the adapter is still visible in Device Manager when the problem occurs. That should help narrow it down.
If your Wi-Fi option is still visible and the computer actually connects to the network but shows “No Internet,” that's a slightly different problem from the Wi-Fi option disappearing completely.
We also have a discussion covering the connected-but-no-internet situation here:

That discussion is Android-focused, but some of the basic checks—such as determining whether the problem affects only one device or the entire network—can still help narrow down whether you're dealing with the device itself or the router/internet connection.
